Welcome to Spring Term 2 in Mells Class
Our focus this Term in Maths is Shape, Fractions, Division and Multiplication.
Our English topic is Writing to persuade - travel leaflet and Poetry - Haikus
Our Science focus is Sound
We will be looking at 'Healthy Me' in JIGSAW (PSHE)
We are looking forward to our school Trip to Butser Ancient Farm on the 19th March.
Please arrive at school for 7:15 ready to leave at 7:30 am! We will return at 16:50 :)
Our PE days are Tuesdays and our focus this term is on Gymnastics.
We have swimming every Monday.
READING RECOMMENDATIONS
Tips for reading with a child:
• When you first sit down with the book take some time to ask the child what has happened so far or what it is about? What do you think is going to happen? This helps to prime the child and aids fluency.
• Let’s go! Encourage children to read. If they have read a page slowly, re-read it together with fluency. If they are stuck on a word you can support them by breaking it up into more manageable chunks, or telling them what is says.
• Were there any words they might not have come across before? Check they understand any more unusual words. It can be useful to make a note of them as the child is reading.
• You might praise I like the way you read …., wow it sounded good when you…
• Talk about what happened in the book, why do you think they did that? How do you think they felt?
• Don’t worry about asking all of the right comprehension questions - they get a lot of that from us! One very important part of reading is reading for pleasure. Enjoying a book and talking about it with someone else.
