Term 4

Term 4 is going to be another very exciting term for Year 5.
English

This term, our English lessons are focusing on two exciting writing topics. First, we will be exploring writing to inform, inspired by a fantastic collection of books by Charlotte Guillain. The children will have the opportunity to write their own non-chronological reports, developing their skills in organising information clearly and effectively.

In addition, we will be working on writing to entertain, using Gary Crew's captivating story, The Water Tower, as a support. The children will create their own descriptive recounts, bringing their ideas to life with vivid details and engaging storytelling.

The children have already produced some fantastic writing this year, which you will be able to see at our upcoming parent evenings. I am really looking forward to seeing what amazing work they will create this term!

Other subjects

Over the coming weeks, the children will be exploring area and perimeter in Maths, working on measuring and solving problems. We’ll also focus on statistics, learning how to collect and interpret data, and study shapes to understand their properties.

In Geography, we’ll be investigating the question, "Would you like to live in the desert?" and discovering what makes deserts unique. Our Science lessons will explore living things, with an exciting look at life cycles and reproduction.

It’s going to be a fantastic period of discovery and learning!

Reminders

Dance Umbrella
The upcoming Dance Umbrella will take place on Monday, 23rd March. The children have been practicing very hard for this and will continue to develop their dance routine every Thursday. Please ensure they come to school in their P.E. kits on these days. We will send out more information about costumes and the event date soon.

Reading
Thank you to all parents who have supported the children with their reading at home. The in-class reading incentive has really encouraged children to read more regularly, and it’s wonderful to see their determination to read every day.

Spellings
Children should be practicing the statutory spelling lists at home each week. The Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 spelling lists are attached, or copies can be printed. These will also be available at parents’ evening.

Thank you for your continued support!
