Year 3: Avon

Week 2
Yet again, you have amazed me with your enthusiasm and hard work! Well done for all that you completed last week.
Below is our timetable for this week.  As always, I will post more details at the start of each day.
I have also attached the reading comprehension for this week.
Please do let me know if you need any further information. Many thanks.
Daily Maths Challenge
Have a look at the sheet below for a daily challenge.  Try to look at the challenge each morning before 10.30 am - we will discuss the answers as a warm up to our lesson.
Reading at home
During the period of home learning you may find the Oxford Owl website useful. You can register for a free online account. Once you have an account you are able to search for and select books to read. These are similar to books we read in school so you should be able to select the correct level. If you have any problems, let me know and I can help. I will post a link to the Oxford Owl website below.
BBC Programmes
I am sure that you are probably already aware, but the BBC has announced that they will be showing programmes to support home learning.  I have found the following schedule, which might be useful to you.
Spellings for term 3
I think that you can probably remember which spelling group you are in. If you are unsure, let me know and I will confirm this for you.
I am going to let you have the spelling grid for the whole term. We will start on week 2 - I think that this is the simplest thing to do! I will also attach a cover / write / check grid.  If you have access to a printer, you may like to use this.  If you cannot access a printer, just write out the words on a piece of paper.  During the week we will look at some of the words together.
Each week I would like you to:
1) Practise the spellings daily.
2) Write a set of sentences each week which contain the spellings for your group.  Focus on the spelling of the word, as well as your punctuation.
3) Check that you know what each word means.  If you do not, find out! It would be amazing if you could think of synonyms for each word! Be a vocabulary star!!
Happy New Year Avon Class!
I hope that you are all well. I am really sorry that we cannot all be together in school.  You had a brilliant term before Christmas.  We have an exciting new topic to explore and whether you are at home, or at school, there is lots to look forward to!

I will do the best that I can to help you in your learning at home. I have not taught online before, so there may be a few hiccups! Hopefully you will all have managed to get your paper packs from school which have some activities in.

At the moment, the plan is for me to be online (Google Classroom) 10.30 - 11.30am each day.  This will allow me to give you an introduction to some activities, which you can continue during the day.  I will then be online 2.15-3pm to catch up with how you have got on and to allow us to share some of your work! I may organise some other online sessions at a later date. I will post a message on the VLE with any online links for you to use.  Please do message me each day to let me know how you are doing!

Please do ask questions if you are unsure about anything. If you find something difficult, let me know and I will try to support you. Most importantly of all, look after yourself and your family. Try to do some exercise each day - go for a walk or do a workout with Joe Wicks. Do some of the things that you enjoy - for example cooking, art or craft work, listening to audio books or complete some coding activities. I have put a link to an audiobook for you below - it's one of my daughter's favourites!
Now is a great time to start a new hobby!

My email is jo.ryan@stnicholasschool.co.uk. I will make contact with you each week - either online or by phone, to see how you are getting on!  Keep Safe!

Each week, your child will bring home a times tables sheet and a spelling sheet.  Please encourage your child to learn their tables and their spellings for the week.  I have attached the spellings for the term.  I have also attached the statutory spellings for years 3 & 4.  I would really appreciate it if you could look at these with your child.
